Details: Former governor who currently works as a radio presenter

After losing the Taita Taveta gubernatorial re-election bid, former Governor Granton Samboja retreated to living his private life.

A few months later, it is now emerging that the former governor who started out as a radio presenter and later on as a radio station owner seems to have gone back to the trade.

A spot check by the Star confirmed that the former county boss now works as a Gospel show presenter on a radio station that broadcasts in the Taita dialect.

He doubles up as a preacher and his show airs Sundays on Anguo FM, a station he owns.

In addition to being a presenter, Samboja who was the second governor of Taita Taveta spends most of his time meeting with various groups of people, within the county.

Before joining politics, Samboja worked for the Royal Media Services (RMS) for many years.

He later quit to start Milele FM, which he sold to Mediamax.

Samboja joined politics in 2017 and sought the Taita Taveta governorship on a Wiper party ticket, which he won becoming the second governor of the county.

In 2022, he sought re-election on a Jubilee party ticket but lost to independent candidate Andrew Mwadime.

During his term as governor, Samboja faced many challenges including questions about his academic papers, wrangles with the County Assembly which escalated to the extent of him asking then-President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the county.

He also got impeached by the County Assembly of Taita Taveta but was saved by the Senate, which is tasked with upholding or rejecting the governor's impeachment.

These fights led to back-and-forth court cases until his term came to an end.   BY THE STAR
