Before Any Talks, Azimio Has To Admit That Ruto Is The President - CS Salim Mvurya

The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya has urged the opposition to admit that President William Ruto is the man-in-command before any talks begin.

Mvurya told the opposition to embrace fairness and give the president some latitude to govern the country for he was the outright winner in the 2022 presidential election.

The former Kwale Governor also maintained that the 2022 general election was fair and it would be unsporting for the opposition chief Raila Odinga to demand the infamous ‘nusu mkate’ power-sharing deal.

“For those members in the opposition who want talks with the government, they should first admit you (referring to Ruto) are the president of the Republic of Kenya. I can sense some foul play here. The opposition has to be fair with you,” Mvurya remarked during a church service in Kwale on Sunday.

“Did the president win or not, why do you people (Azimio) want to subject the president to talks? If they want the talks, the government will provide avenues for talks, but first, they have to be fair to the president by letting him govern the country because he was the clear winner in the last year’s elections,” Mvurya added.

He further stated that last year’s presidential election was the most fair poll in Kenya.

He argued that Raila has not incorporated the high cost of living in the bipartisan talks which he so preached to the electorate, claiming that people allied to the opposition are now shifting camps because they are losing confidence in Raila.

Mvurya asked Ruto not to lose guard and be intimidated by the opposition, as they should accord him the utmost respect he deserves.

“My appeal to you Mr. President, I don’t want you to be deceived and arm-twisted because you are the winner of last year’s general elections. If we are to go for the talks, they should respect the president, they should not start saying they want to speak to Mr. Ruto but instead, they should say they want to speak to President William Ruto,” the CS said.

He further urged Raila to desist from demanding talks after losing an election, as it has become his norm.    BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
