Baringo: Woman apprehended for allegedly killing, burying her 3-day-old son
A middle-aged woman has been apprehended by police officers for killing and burying a three-day-old baby boy.
Dorcas Chebet is alleged to have committed an infanticide act at her home in Timboiywo, Baringo Central, and dug a pit in the backyard where she buried him as a means of concealing evidence.
While confirming the incident, Sacho OCS Jeremiah Miningo said that he received information about the incident from the area assistant Chief Mary Kipsang.
He regretted the heinous act urging women to speak up about what they could be going through, especially during postpartum to avoid such incidences.
He noted that Chebet had delivered safely to a baby boy and named him, at Kiptagich Health Center on Sunday, 23, July this year.
"The baby was born healthy on Sunday 23, July this year, and was discharged the following day, on 25, July, she killed the baby by strangling him to death using her hands and later on buried him in a shallow grave in the backyard," Miningwo said.
He noted that the police officers then went to arrest her at their home where she has been living with her parents.
Chebet during the arrest then led the officers to the backyard where she buried the lifeless body of the infant.
Thereafter, the officers exhumed the body which had physical injuries on the neck and moved the body to the BCRH morgue pending investigations. BY K24 NEWS
