The Ministry of health is set to kick off emergency Cholera vaccination exercise targeting children which will be rolled out across the country.

According to Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, the oral vaccination will be rolled out from August 3, in a bid to prevent children from the waterborne disease.

Muthoni says that the government anticipates that there might be an outbreak of Cholera during El-nino rains which are expected to start from September.

Speaking after a Church service on Sunday, the PS said that the move is to ensure that children are protected from Cholera and other water borne diseases which might spread during rainy seasons due to floods.

Muthoni said that the vaccine is urgent to curb such cases after Cholera outbreak was reported in several counties recently.

She has called on residents to observe high-level hygiene, wash hands all the times, drink boiled clean water and ensure that they eat well cooked food.

Muthoni also addressed the spread of Tuberculosis, saying 11 percent of TB cases in the country are among children of 1 to 15 years, calling for more effort to contain the disease.

She said that many parents ignore the signs of TB thinking it is a Flu. She urged parents to take their children to hospital for early tests to reduce the spread of the disease.    BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
