Truck crashes into several vehicles in Kisii

A loaded truck on Saturday night crashed into several vehicles at Daraja Moja area in Kisii town.

The ill fated truck had initially rammed into two vehicles, among them a truck and matatu, before crashing onto a parking lot at a nearby fuel station crashing other vehicles on impact.

The accident occurred at around 9.30pm, local officials and witnesses said. No fatalities have been confirmed so far.

Kisii Central Traffic Boss Daniel Nyakako who confirmed the incident said they had not encountered any severe injury cases from the accident.

“We did not find anybody in hospitals… Most vehicles affected had been parked already,” Nyakako told the Star.

The driver and his turn boy boy walked out of the truck unhurt but their whereabouts remain unknown, police said.

The truck lost brakes as it hurtled down to Daraja Moja area, Nyakako told the Star Saturday morning.

An eyewitness said he saw the truck zigzagging before ramming into the other vehicles. He caught the episode from the balcony.

“Had it crashed into the filling station it could have possibly ignited fire and we having a different conversations,” John Getuno said.

A fuel station attendant who also witnessed the accident called on authorities to erect bumps at the area believed to be a black spot.

“With bumps and good signage we remain optimistic that they can help,” he said.    BY THE STAR
