President William Ruto has celebrated Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon for breaking the women’s mile World Record at Monaco Diamond League.
She clocked 4:07.64 in the mile, destroying Sifan Hassan’s four-year-old record of 4:12.33 in the women’s mile.
She becomes the first woman to break 4:10 in the mile and has now broken three World Records in 2023 alone.
Ruto said the country celebrates her for being among the best athletes in Kenya.
“Another World record has fallen. Faith Kipyegon’s peerless talent, supreme tenacity and tremendous athleticism has lit up the world again this time in the 1-Mile Monaco Diamond League,” he said.
Ruto also congratulated Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala who won his first 100m race in the Diamond League after clocking 9.92 seconds in Monaco.
“An amazing display of power, speed and character by Ferdinand Omanyala to grab his first Diamond League win. It is also Kenya’s first-ever victory in the 100m in this competition. Congratulations,” he said.
Other leaders also congratulated the two saying they have made the country proud. BY THE STAR
