Beach Volleyball Commission of Kenya secretary Sammy Mulinge has said the introduction of young players into the national men’s volleyball team will make Wafalme a force to reckon with.
The Africa Nations Championships for the men is penciled for late August in Egypt.
Mulinge, who doubles up as the Kenya Ports Authority KPA coach, believes the nation has enough talent to rub shoulders with their North Africa counterparts, who have dominated the biannual championships.
“The current crop of players, given chance, can perform well. The young players are ready to once again rule the continent if the 2021 performance is any barometer,” Mulinge said.
Wafalme defied odds to come from behind to stun powerhouse Egypt 3-2 in a nail-biting contest in Kigali, 2021.
Mulinge added that foreign-based players will bring the required experience into the squad because of their exposure.
Kenya has a host of players that have enjoyed playing abroad including Enock Mogeni, Abiud Chirchir, Simon Kosirai, Brian Melly, Peter Kamara, Dennis Omollo and Sialo Omondi
“We only need early and thorough preparations. A month-long training will allow the players iron out their weaknesses,” Mulinge finalised. BY THE STAR
