Imagine giving birth in a car.
That was the case for content creator Daddie Marto and his wife Christine Koku.
The new mum welcomed her third child in a friend’s car as she was being driven to the hospital.
Sharing her story on her YouTube channel ‘ MaNa PaTau’
‘We were waiting for a confirmation for a shoot.
Just when we got the confirmation and we were about to start shooting I was called and told to go to the hospital.
I told her to hang in. I started sweating, I became confused and forgot the lines, and I had to change my shirt.
I was just sweating.”
Koku shared that she thought she had time only for her water to break.
“I thought I still had time because my water had not broken.
I called my mum and she asked me to go to the hospital, Around 11 my water broke. our friend Njeri came.
I was in so much pain I could not even talk, I was shaking and sweating.”
She added
‘ I was not in a rush because my water had not broken, so I thought we had time.
But by the time we got to Githurai Kimbo, I was screaming because the pain had become unbearable.
I couldn’t understand this because for my other pregnancies, I labored for hours and I was induced.
When we got to NYS, Njeri told my hubby I was almost getting the bay.
He told me to hang in there.”
Unknown to the couple, their son was about to be born.
‘I did not know I was in labour because I was used to labouring for 15 hours, I had vowed to ask for an epidural since I got to the hospital.
I felt I was in labour when my instinct told me to go on all fours, I apologized to Njeri in advance for what I would to to her car and her masai shuka.
Luckily I had worn a free dress,I sat down and was ready for anything.”
Koku says she is proud of herself after she birthed her son, adding that she only knew of such incidents from other people’s stories.
“We had stopped three ambulances but they did not stop. When we got to the underpass near Muthaiga, I pushed and in 10 seconds he was out.
The baby had his cord around his neck luckily it was not tight so I moved it.
I took Njeri’s sweaters and covered the baby, she kept driving.
The placenta and the bay was still connected.”
Njeri and Koku finally arrived at the hospital and the bay was given the care he needed.
The mother of three says she still has the coil inside her as it did not come out during delivery.
She had put it to prevent any unwanted pregnancies but by the look of things God had other plans
