The victims are receiving treatment at Malindi Sub-county Hospital.
The accident led to a traffic snarl-up on the Malindi-Lamu road for three hours as angry residents burned tyres and blocked the road to protest the frequent accidents that have been happening in the area despite their complaints to local authorities.
According to witnesses and other residents, the area has become a hot spot for accidents and residents have been calling for the placement of speed bumps along the highway for a while.
Paul Mzungu, a resident, expressed his frustration, saying, “We are tired of digging deep into our pockets to help raise money for treatment for young people who have been involved in accidents along this highway since many of them are from poor backgrounds and cannot raise money for treatment.”
Police used tear gas to disperse youths who had blocked the road.
