Shakahola Massacre: Kindiki Says Exhumation Of Bodies Resumes On Monday
The exercise will kick off after a two-week hiatus, which was meant to allow pathologists to conduct post-mortem examinations on the 129 bodies that were exhumed in the second phase of the exercise.
“We have lost many people, we have exhumed 242 bodies so far, of people who were starved to death, hit with blunt and sharp objects or strangled,” Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said during a church service in Kirinyaga County on Sunday.
At the prayer service, Kindiki issued a warning to rogue preachers, saying they will face the law.
“We will never see something like that. Just the way we handle criminals hiding under Islam, we will equally deal with those hiding under Christianity. So that they do not stain the church,” said the Interior minister.
The post-mortem exercises on 129 bodies exhumed during the second phase of the exercise began on May 25.
91 persons (including one who died in hospital) have been rescued and 19 victims have already been reunited with their families.
A total of 93 DNA samples have been collected and 34 persons linked to the incident have been apprehended, including the cult leader Paul Mackenzie.
Court on Friday directed that Mackenzie and 16 other suspects remain in police custody until Wednesday next week to allow the hearing of an application seeking a further 60-day detention. BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
