I'm ready for by-elections, Guyo tells Azimio

Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo has said he is ready for a by-election after leaving Jubilee party.

Guyo is among Isiolo leaders who recently joined the United Democratic Alliance Party.

Speaking on Friday, the former Matopeni MCA said he was willing to go back to the ballot under the UDA party if need be

"I want to tell minority leader Opiyo Wandayi that we are not scared. I am ready to go for a by-election if they call for one,” Guyo said.

“I will continue serving the people of Isiolo and I will make sure my administration implements its manifesto under the leadership of President William Ruto,” the governor added.

Last month, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta asked Jubilee rebels to resign from their seats.

Uhuru, who is the Jubilee party leader, said they can no longer continue to enjoy the fruits of the party when they have betrayed its leadership.

''Just move and leave us be in peace. And those seats that we gave you, please return them and we give them to others," he said.

Guyo has always said he's been in good books with the former President since he joined TNA in 2013.

He was the Majority Leader at the county assembly of Nairobi,  from 2017 to 2022 and  Minority Leader from 2013-2017.

However, last year he made history as the first MCA to ascend to the governorship after the August 2022 polls.

Guyo was also the only governor having been elected on the Jubilee ticket under the larger Azimio coalition.

Speaking on his relationship with President Ruto, Guyo that he lowkey supported President William Ruto in the August 2022 elections.

The Governor explained that despite winning the seat on a Jubilee ticket which was in Azimio la Umoja coalition, he was behind Ruto.

"Leo lazima tuambiliane ukweli, kuna watu  walikusupport wa mchana na sisi tulikuwa wa usiku.. Mimi na wenzangu tulikuwa wa usiku," Guyo said.

(Today we must speak the truth. There are people who supported you during the day and others at night. Some of us supported you at night.)

Even before Ruto was sworn in as President, Isiolo Governor  Guyo said his government is ready to work with him.

He said the interest of Isiolo residents will always come first before any political alignment.

“President-elect William Ruto is a good friend of mine and despite political alignments, Kenya had a new president and as the Governor, I need to put the interest of the Isiolo people first,” Guyo said.     BY THE STAR
