Governor Sakaja Clears Air After Uproar Over 'Hazardous Bridge' In Kayole

 

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has responded to outraged Kenyans who chastised him over the state of a "bridge" in Nairobi's Kayole neighbourhood.

This comes after a video of a local atop the structure surfaced online, revealing the sorry state residents have been forced to endure.

According to the local in the video, the structure connects two neighbourhoods and is used by locals to cross over on both sides.

He claims, however, that the "bridge" has been severely neglected and that no safety rails have ever been installed on the structure, posing a significant risk to area residents.

He also shows sewage being dumped into the Nairobi River beneath the structure.

Governor Sakaja responded, stating that the said bridge is a trunk sewer and was not dedicated to human commute, amid an uproar from Kenyans online calling out the county government for its negligence.

He also shared images of the area, showing a path that residents should be able to use.

"It's actually not a bridge. It's a trunk sewer that's been there for decades. You can see the road on the side," he said on Twitter.

Governor Sakaja also said that experts from the Nairobi water have been deployed to the area to deal with the sewage disposal into the river.

"Our Engineers @NairobiWater are on site sorting the spillage issues," he said.
