President William Ruto has unveiled a four-point plan on how the government plans to lower the high cost of living.
Ruto spoke on Sunday during an interdenominational prayer service in Kajiado.
Ruto said he will first work to reduce Kenya’s harvest that mysteriously disappears from the reserves as losses are incurred from whatever is stolen.
The Head of State added that the government is working to construct small markets for traders across the country to ease trade activities.
“In this budget, we have included markets. Those small markets. We will construct about 400 markets in different parts of the country to help our farmers and pastoralists get a place to bring their harvest for sale,” he said.
Additionally, Ruto said the government will aggregate, add value, process and manufacture agricultural products from farmers so as to increase the revenue they earn from their farm products.
Finally, Ruto said employment opportunities for the youth are top of the list as he works to lower the high cost of living.
He said many are complaining that the cost of living is high, yet they don’t understand what is causing it to be high. And neither are they aware of the plan by the government to lower the cost of living.
“You have seen some people discuss the high cost of living till they put on cooking pans on their heads. These people are not telling us how putting a cooking pan on the head is going to help lower the high cost of living. It is just that they don’t understand. So we have a plan on what to do,” he said.
The Head of State has come under sharp criticism in the recent past following the soaring prices of basic commodities. But he has insisted he is working to ensure Kenyans get these commodities at affordable prices. BY THE STAR
