How Father’s Day came to be

Father’s day is a special day just like mother’s day that people get to celebrate the fathers in their lives be it those who stepped up as dads , biological dads or guardians who act as father figures.

This year it was celebrated on the 18th of June worldwide and people went all out to celebrate their loved ones.

Though it is not as hyped as mothers day usually is but those who valued it went an extra effort to show their loved ones how much they appreciate them.

Most people celebrate this holidays without even knowing the history of they came to be recognized and celebrated in the world.

Father’s day was set aside later after mothers day had already been in existence and been set as a holiday.

It began to commemorate 362 men who had died in a terrible mining accident in the Fairmont coal company mines in Monongah.

It was first a one time thing like a memorial service for them before the next year a lady by the name Sonora Smart Dodd decided it should be an annual thing.

Dodd was inspired to create the holiday after attending a Mother’s Day church service in 1909.

She was the daughter of a Civil War veteran named William Jackson Smart, who had raised her and her five siblings as a single father.

Dodd felt that fathers deserved their own special day of recognition, she began a campaign to establish Father’s Day.

Dodd’s campaign was successful, and the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane on June 19, 1910.

The holiday spread quickly throughout the United States, and it was officially recognised by the U.S. Congress in 1972.

All fathers deserve to be celebrated as they give so much and very few people actually give back to them in return.

Just like mothers they always sacrifice for the well being of the family.
