ODM official gives Raila two-week notice to reinstate him

ODM party of Raila Odinga has been given an ultimatum of 14 days to overturn a decision it made to replace the Rongo branch officials.

In a letter addressed to the party secretary’s general Edwin Sifuna, former branch secretary George Obuya has termed the changes unlawful and called for their revocation.

He wants the party to restore the former officials in their respective positions.

“This is an action that has come out of nowhere that is clearly receiving a considerable amount of illegal support as the purported branch chairman has gone ahead to open a parallel office,” reads the letter through his lawyer Adhiambo Omondi.

Obuya alleges that the party executive officer Oduor Ong’wen made the changes in the branch leadership without his knowledge and any communication.

In the changes, he said, the youth affairs secretary was elevated to the position of a branch chairman.

“This is an illegal act as neither has there been vacancy at the branch level nor an advertisement by the National Election Board (NEB) as a party organ over it and or an election conducted for any position,” he argues.

“It is therefore our express instructions from our client that you see to it that these illegal, unlawful and irregular actions are rescinded, reversed and the bonafide branch officials restored.”

He has warned that failure to do so will force him to refer the matter to the Party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Measures (IDRM) as per the Constitution as a first step to “have this menace corrected”.   BY THE STAR
