Do you have an old Samsung phone that you no longer use? If yes, Samsung is looking for you.

As part of the climate change solution initiative, the company has announced a programme to collect all phones that are not in use.

Samsung and Housewife’s Paradise, a home appliances store will be collecting e-waste beginning with Nairobi before expanding to other parts of the country.

On Tuesday, Samsung announced a joint effort on environmental conservation by collection of e-waste.

This came as the world marked World Environment Day commemorated every June 5.

Samsung is prompting its customers to dispose of their e-waste properly to safeguard the environment for future generations.

With the e-waste management program, Housewife’s Paradise will collect Samsung brands e-waste at the customer’s preferred time and date.

The waste will then be delivered to WEEE Centre, the official Samsung recycling partner in Kenya.

They ensure that the waste is not just discarded but transformed into reusable materials.

Electronic waste is growing worldwide as more devices are produced, used and discarded.

E-waste contains hazardous materials that can be harmful to the environment and human health if not managed correctly.

In September 2022, Samsung announced its global environmental strategy to tackle climate change.

The plan was about investing in new technologies to reduce emissions from processed gases as well as to reduce power consumption in consumer products.

The government passed the Sustainable Waste Management Act in 2022.

The Act was to establish the legal framework for sustainable waste management.

It requires electronic manufacturing companies in Kenya to take responsibility for the pollution their products cause during their entire product life cycle.     BY THE STAR
