Comoros President Azali Assoumani has thanked President William Ruto for supporting his candidature to become the chairperson of the African Union.
Assoumani took over as AU chair in February for the year 2023.
”I thank Kenya for supporting the candidature of Comoros as chairperson of the African Union for 2023,” he said.
Addressing the nation during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Moi Stadium, Embu, Assoumani lauded Kenya’s progress since independence.
”Kenya has made tremendous progress since independence, I pay homage to the fathers of independence of Africa,” he said.
The Comoros leader said that while some African Countries slowed down on the post-independence take off, Kenya accelerated its progress.
”I am very happy that you accelerated your independence as a country and 60 years later Kenya is respected as a country that is capable of solving its own problems,” he said.
The Coromos leader said Kenya and Comoros share a lot in common in culture and trade, saying the two countries will continue to deepen diplomatic ties.
”Kenya continues to inspire many countries like ours, so you can count on us,” he said.
He asked African countries to reject division and work for the lives of the people and improve opportunities for them.
”We encourage dialogue for resolution of peace, I think we can work to overcome these obstacles to construct a better future,” he said.
”This is an opportunity for us, if we work together and be accountable to our people and preserve their ideals.” BY THE STAR
