Man arrested with 113 alleged stolen phones as Sh6m Kenya Power cables

 

Police on Friday seized 16 tonnes of aluminium cables worth Sh6 million vandalized from Kenya Power and Lighting Company at a go-down in Embakasi area, Nairobi.

The aluminium conductors were found concealed in a container inside the go-down.

They arrested four suspects in relation to the case.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, the aluminium conductors were brought and carefully cut into small pieces.

They were then smelted at night then made into window panels in the wee hours of the morning.

He added that the directors of the company and the person who bought the conductors will be charged with vandalism.

Wachira thanked the public for providing information regarding the go-downs and promised to act firmly in finding other suspects involved in the incident.

The incident comes a week after the arrest of a Chinese woman who was found with copper and aluminium cables allegedly vandalised by KPLC.

The suspects are in the custody of the Energy Police Unit as they wait to be arraigned in court.

Meanwhile, police from Langata Police Station on Friday recovered suspected stolen mobile phones and laptops from the Sara-Ngombe area.

They recovered 113 mobile phones, ipads from the suspect.

The suspected stolen gadgets were recovered from his shop.       BY THE STAR
