Justice Lessit, IG Koome among 12 gazetted as NCRC governing council members

 

Attorney General Justin Muturi has gazetted  Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome and Lady Justice Jessie W. Lesiit among 12 of the new governing council members of the  National Crime Research Centre. 

Muturi, who is the Chairman of the NCRC council, notified Kenyans of the memberships through a gazette notice dated May 24. 

"It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to section 6 (2) of the National Crime Research Centre Act,1997, the following are members of the Governing Council of the National Crime Research Centre," Muturi said. 

Justice Lesiit is representative from the office of the  Chief Justice while IG Koome represents the Commissioner of Police in the council. 

Also appointed is Kenneth Odhiambo who will represent the Treasury Permanent Secretary in the NCRC governing council. 

Jacinta Nyamosi was appointed as a representative of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Commissioner for Social Services will be represented by Maurice Tsuma while John Warioba was gazetted as the Commissioner of Prisons. 

Mary Mbau will represent the Principal Probation Officer in the NCRC council. 

Three persons who were found to be eminently qualified in the fields of criminal law, sociology and criminology were appointed to represent Universities in the NCRC council. 

The three are Judith Adongo Oloo, Samuel Ndiritu Wakanyu and Laureen Muisyo-Njiru. 

The new NCRC Council will be mandated to come up with the research policy and programmes of the Centre.

They will also direct the research activities of the Centre with a view to ensuring that its objectives under this Act are attained.

Additionally, the team will plan and organise fundraising activities to generate funds for the NCRC.      BY THE STAR
