Free Wi-Fi to boost e-commerce and create jobs - Ruto

President William Ruto has reiterated his commitment to delivering 25,000 free wifi hotspots across the country.

Ruto said the project will help micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to engage in e-commerce.

He spoke in Embu where he attended the  Madaraka Day SMEs, Cooperatives, Trade and Revenue Expo at Embu University grounds.

He said the free Wi-Fi hotspots will help in the creation of employment opportunities.

"The wireless network will give young Kenyans the opportunity to explore different online jobs," Ruto said.

"There are millions of online opportunities our youth can exploit."

He also launched the Embu University Free Wi-Fi.

During his campaigns last year, Ruto promised Kenyans free calls through the provision of free internet countrywide.

Ruto also said all households will be connected to a national internet grid across the country.

Present in Embu with Ruto were Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretaries Simon Chelugui, Moses Kuria, Eliud Owalo, Zacharia Njeru and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire among other leaders.        BY THE STAR
