Driver in accident involving students was on suicide mission - CS Murkomen

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has blamed the driver for the road crash that left six students dead in Naivasha.

In an accident that happened three weeks ago at Delamere along the Nakuru-Naivasha Highway, Murkomen said the driver of the vehicle was on a suicide mission.

"The children who died in Naivasha would not have died had that driver not overlapped... He knew there was traffic but he kept on overlapping... But that driver was on a suicidal mission," he said during a press conference on Friday.

He accused the driver of having taken advantage of the students who he claims were unable to call him out when he was overlapping.

He further told Kenyans to take charge of their safety on the road and hold errant drivers accountable in order to tame road accidents.

The April 18 accident claimed the lives of six students who died on the spot.

The students were travelling from Western Kenya to Nairobi when the accident occurred.

The accident involved a lorry and a matatu that was carrying the students.

Seven other people who were injured have been rushed to the Naivasha county hospital for treatment.
