We’ll find permanent solution to Gaucho’s arrests – Winnie Odinga

Azimio is looking for a permanent solution over Bunge la Wananchi president Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho’s constant arrests, EALA MP Winnie Odinga has said.

While replying to a Twitter user who asked why Azimio has not used the coalition’s fund to secure Gaucho’s release from jail, Winnie said she has on several occasions bailed him out as he is arrested almost every week.

“Pesa nishaa tuma, Gaucho anashikwa kila wiki mpaka niko na #FreeGaucho fund kwa MPesa kama bill ya tokens,” she said.

(I have sent money, but Gaucho is being arrested every week until I have a #FreeGaucho fund in my MPesa).

“Gaucho is tired of being harassed! This thing isn’t only about money we are trying to find a permanent solution to his harassment by the police. You can’t arrest someone every week!”

Winnie alleged that police are after money for arresting Gaucho since they know he will be bailed out.

This is after Gaucho decried unfair treatment in the coalition after he was arrested and nobody bothered to bail him out.

He added that he prays the talks materialise because if not and protests are recalled, he might not be part of them.

On Monday, Gaucho had arrived outside City Hall and was engaging his supporters in a chit-chat when three undercover cops arrived and asked him to accompany them.

The officers led him to a waiting blue Subaru and sped off.

DCI said Gaucho was arrested for causing disturbance.

He was later charged for the same on Tuesday, at the Kiambu Law Courts and was released on Sh5,000 cash bail.

Calvin Okoth Otieno alias “Gaucho” was arraigned before Kiambu law courts on charges of creating disturbance contrary to section 95 (1)(b) of the penal code. The suspect pleaded not guilty and was released on Sh20,000 bond or cash bail of Sh5,000,” DCI said.   BY THE STAR
