The funeral service of Brendalicious, the Kenyan Instagrammer who died in Malaysia under controversial circumstances was quietly buried.
Family and friends were joined by Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongo who eulogized Brenda.
“Joined the family of Peris Ochola, Kisumu City Board Vice-Chairperson to commiserate with them following the passing on of her lovely daughter Brenda Akinyi Ochola after a short illness in Malaysia. May the Lord give her family and friends strength to bear the loss.RIP Brenda!” he wrote.
On April 28, the family rejected online rumors that she died while trafficking drugs.
The rumors suggested Brenda died when the cocaine sachets she had swallowed exploded in her stomach.
She supposedly collapsed at the airport after a flight delay and was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The family said this was not true.
“Brenda was not ina come on life support as alleged. Brenda fell ill and was admitted to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur on 15/04/23.
She was hospitalized for medical care but her condition deteriorated and eventually, she required the assistance of a ventilator to help with her breathing.
Despite the doctor’s best efforts, her condition deteriorated.”
They further added that Brenda’s cause of death was mycoplasma pneumonia septicemia that led to hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy with multiple organ failure.
