Wadadia coach Rashid Sumba has said their good run in the Kenya women’s Premier League is down to players playing according to the team’s philosophy.
The Mumias-based side beat Zetech Sparks 1-0 on Sunday at the Mumias Sports Complex to register their fourth straight win in WPL.
Wadadia maintains the sixth position following the weekend results.
Sumba added that their young squad only needs moral and psychological support for rapid development.“Our focus is on winning the remaining matches and finishing in a better position,” Sumba said.
“We have introduced young players into the team that is playing according to our script. They play with zeal and purpose. We just have to give them the support needed to become better athletes.”
Despite their rich form, Sumba warned against complacency.
“We must remain level-headed. Of course, Wadadia cannot win the league but we have a genuine chance to finish in the top five. We lost good players to Ulinzi Starlets while our first-choice goalkeeper headed to Tanzania. We haven’t achieved anything yet. Our focus is on nurturing the youngsters to fit in the Premier League.”
Vihiga Queens top the WPL standings with 28 points by virtue of superior goal difference as Gaspo Women remain second. Thika Queens and Ulinzi both have 25 points but a superior goal difference places Thika third.
Nakuru City Queens, Bunyore and Kisumu are fifth, seventh and eighth respectively.
Tail enders Kayole Starlets have minus 12 points having already been relegated. BY THE STAR
