Your demos will bear no fruits, Murang’a MPs tell Raila

News

Two Murang’a MPs have told off ODM leader Raila Odinga over his planned mass action saying nothing will come out of it.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and senator Joe Nyutu labeled Raila a habitual protester every election cycle.

Nyoro said he crisscrossed the country during the campaign period and learnt that most Kenyans wanted subsidised fertilizers and infrastructural development which the government is undertaking.

The budget committee chairperson in the National Assembly was speaking during a church service at Weithaga ACK Church in Kiharu constituency.

Nyoro noted that the Kenyan Kwanza government has no time to engage Raila in his ‘theatrics’ and that they will not be intimidated as they are too busy working for Kenyans.

He said Monday’s protest will not cause President William Ruto to budge since his main focus is to shield the interests of Kenyans.

“Hii sarakasi yote niwaeleze kwa taratibu, wamezoea katika uchaguzi wote wanatisha rais wanaitwa, wanapewa mkate nusu,” Nyoro said.

(These theatrics are things they are used to every election year, they threaten the president and get a share of government)

“Nataka niwaambie, kama rafiki ya rais mimi namjua zaidi. Huyu William Ruto sio yule mmekuwa mkitisha. Huyu hatishiki. Huyu ni kama mtoto wa Mau Mau.”

(As the president’s friend, William Ruto is not someone you can threaten. He is like an offspring of the Mau mau)

The MP further noted that the government has no budget for teargas that may be used in the demonstrations.

He said the previous stock may have overstayed in the stores as it must have been procured after the 2017 general elections when Raila again protested election results.

Nyoro said Ruto will not engage Raila in dialogue even if he holds demonstrations daily saying Kenyans already made their decisions at the ballot.

(President Ruto hataita mtu yoyote ambembeleze na mkate nusu (The president will not give anyone a share of government),” he said.

On his part, Nyutu, who chairs the Education committee in the Senate, said Raila uses mass action to push for his own interests.

He said the ODM leader claims to be advancing the interests of the people but he always abandons the fight once he is given a chance to join the government.

“We can see his intentions. The demos are aimed at securing him a chance in the government but the President has vowed that will not happen,” Nyutu said.

Earlier in the day, Ruto indicated that he would only engage Raila within the confines of the Constitution.
