A Singapore-based CEO is suing a woman for emotional trauma for only wanting to be friends.

The man has been identified as Drone-racing firm director K Kawshigan who filed the suit against Nora Tan Shu Mei. He alleged her actions damaged his 'stellar reputation' and caused him to lose at least five business partnerships.

She has counter-sued, saying that her former friend had been harassing her. In her case, she seeking money that she says she spent on securing her home from Mr Kawshigan and on counselling sessions.

According to Channel News Asia, a magistrates' court judgment published on January 28 shows that Mr Kawshigan filed two lawsuits against Ms Tan after their friendship broke down when she told him that she only saw him as a friend.

Kawshigan and Tan reportedly met in 2016 and became friends over time, but things took a turn in 2020 when Tan found that they didn’t see eye-to-eye on the possibility of taking things further.

Tan saw Kawshigan as no more than a friend, but he considered her as his “closest friend” and was appalled when she felt the need to step back from their social interactions and encouraged him to be “self-reliant.”

Kawshigan sent her a letter alleging “monetary damages arising from negligent infliction of emotional distress and possible defamation” and move forward with the lawsuit.
