Kennedy Rioba Matiko from Moheto village MigoriCounty is setting the pace for many despite him being abled differently.
Born 20 years ago, Matiko has always been passionate about music and helping those around him. And that did not come as a surprise when he chose to pursue a Bachelor in Law.
The former Taranganya High school Alumni told Mpasho.co.ke that music has always been a passion of his
“Dancing is a talent I discovered when I was young, I even dance in church. I love dancing because it makes me feel happy and Appreciated. It’s God’s gift to me.
I also love dancing because I want to tell the world that nothing is impossible. Even without legs still, I can dance like any other person.”
The firstborn in a family of three shared with us why he chose to study law, stating
“I chose it because of the passion I have for justice, I love justice.I admire people like James Orengo in the law fraternity. I am a student at Kisii University. “
Matiko has not had it easy in life. At his young age, some people treat him like a burden or someone who is not capable of achieving anything.
“The biggest challenge I face is people looking down upon me. Some think I’m a failure because I’m abled differently. They think I can’t do any tasks, some see me as a burden to my family.”
His advice to people living with different disabilities?
“Never look down upon themselves and have trust that everything is possible before the Almighty Lord and he has the reason as to why they are the way they are in nature.
Parents with children who are abled differently should take them out to the public for exposure because they have hidden talents and capabilities, they should also take them to school for knowledge and education.
We are all equal before God. Most of the abled differently children are very bright in school and also abled in other areas. ”
