Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has asked President William Ruto to rename Kamukunji where Azimio held its rally and Jacaranda where it is set for Sunday’s rally.
Nyoro said that the two grounds should be gazetted and renamed Maandamano grounds due to the constant rallies at the venues.
Speaking on Sunday at a church service in Bomet, Nyoro said that Azimio will not scare the government with demonstrations.
‘We are asking Ruto to gazette the two grounds where Azimio rallies were to be renamed Mandamano grounds so that they can go there daily,” he said.
He said that Azimio can demonstrate every day but they will not succeed in scaring the president.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga launched an aggressive political campaign to discredit Ruto’s win and has planned a series of political rallies across the country to resist the Kenya Kwanza government.
Raila will hold a rally at Jacaranda on Sunday.
He told his supporters that they meet at the Jacaranda grounds for the rally dubbed “No Handshake”.
Despite the push from some leaders to cancel the rally, Raila on Saturday maintained the Jacaranda rally is still on.
Religious leaders have expressed concern that the political rallies might jeopardise national peace, cohesion and security.
Kwale County Religious Advisory Council Chair Sheikh Amani Mwachirumu said recent utterances by the ODM leader of failing to recognise President William Ruto and his administration are likely to divide Kenyans.
“We are worried by Raila’s words and if the said rally is to ever happen, it won’t bring any good,” he said.
