Wambui Kamiru has a memorable picture of her late husband Bob Collymore on what would have been his 65th birthday.
Collymore was born on 13th January 1958.
Taking to her social media, Wambui showed the softer side of Collymore who was wearing an afro wig.
They took a selfie of the moment, and it is hard to recognize the former Safaricom CEO.
She captioned the beautiful photo’
“Happy birthday @bobcollymore- to memories. The place where your presence now lives. 💐”
Collymore died on July 1, 2019, at his home in Kitisuru.
He had gone to the UK in October 2017 to receive treatment for acute myeloid Leukemia and returned in July 2018 to resume duties at Safaricom.
He had spent ten months in treatment abroad.
Collymore revealed he had been feeling unwell for some time and was misdiagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency.
He told Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange in an interview that a doctor at Nairobi Hospital suspected a blood problem and referred him to a specialist in the UK.
“I left that very night to London and it was there that a haematologist diagnosed me with acute myeloid leukemia — a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow and is curable,”
Collymore left behind a wife and four children. He died at the age of 61.
Born in 1958, Collymore was a Guyanese-born British businessman and the Chief Executive Officer of giant telco Safaricom.
He was eulogized as outgoing and very social by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Years after his death he is still deeply missed.
