Ways to give back to society during holiday season

While the holiday is a time to be around friends and family. It's a time to reflect on the memories you've made during the year.

It is also a time to give back to the society by showing support for those who need it most.

Donating your time to support those around you is extremely beneficial to you and the community.

There are many ways to give back to the community.

Giving back is not only a way of being responsible but also provides an opportunity for you to grow as a person, to better understand how you fit into the world around you.

One can embrace the community by finding and supporting a worthy cause including sponsoring underfunded sports, arts, music, or afterschool programme.

Once you have chosen the charity you would like to support, you can urge your business colleagues to chip in and support too.

Connecting to the challenges of your community shows that you're alert to what's going on around you.

You can join a group or as an individual in feeding street families or providing basic needs for them.

The country at the moment is facing a severe drought as a result of delayed rains leaving more than four million people without food.

You can join the food donation drives that will go along way in providing support to families in the Arid and Semi Arid(ASAL) counties.

Many families are in need of food and basic needs; this is the time to remember them as we celebrate the festive season.

You can help serve the struggling families, children and senior citizens in need of food by volunteering to donate food and other necessities.

A stay at a hospital can cause emotional and financial strain on families, you can take part in visiting the sick and spending time with them.

This will bring hope to them and they will know that they are not fighting alone.

Volunteering will help you gain skills that will teach you responsibility, kindness, patience and the importance of team work.    BY THE STAR
