Construction manager dies after falling off Kasarani building

News

A manager slid and fell to death from the third floor of a building under construction in Mirema area, Kasarani, Nairobi.

David Macharia, 40, was inspecting a house under construction when he slid and fell off on Wednesday, December 7, witnesses told police.

He was seriously injured in the head and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

This stopped construction that was ongoing there.

Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy to inform part of the probe into the incident.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.

He said other experts had been drawn into the investigations to establish if there was any form of negligence on the side of the contractors.

“We have seen a sad trend of accidents on these sites and we are looking into them. We get almost one death weekly from such sites,” he said.

Officials from National Construction Authority and Nairobi City County were expected to visit the scene on Thursday as part of the probe into the incident.

Most workers are never provided with protective gear at such sites, which is overlooked by authorities.

Elsewhere, police are investigating the discovery of a body on the roadside in Makongeni area, Nairobi.

Witnesses called the police on Wednesday, December 7 and reported they had spotted a body next to a shop.

The deceased was not immediately identified. The body was moved to the mortuary. Police said it did not have visible injuries then and that they suspect he was killed elsewhere and dumped there or died out of natural causes.

A probe into the incident is ongoing and police want anyone whose friend or relative is missing to visit City Mortuary for identification and autopsy.

Cases of discovery of bodies on the roadside, thickets and other sites are common. Most of the cases are under investigation, police say.   BY MPASHO NEWS
