Nairobi CEC nominee for Innovation and Digital Michael Gumo says his net worth is Sh51.1 million
He made the revelations on Tuesday while appearing for vetting before the Nairobi County Assembly’s Appointment committee .
“In solid cash I have Sh1.1 million and in investments I’m worth Sh50 million,”Gumo said.
He highlighted that he is a farmer who plants and sell sugarcane and coffee in Trans Nzoia.
Part of his wealth, Gumo said he has five vehicles and owns an apartment at Valley Arcade in Lavington.
“I’m not a landlord but the house is my official residence,” he said.
The 37-year-old waded into his political involvement and revealed that he belongs to the ODM party.
“I participated in the ODM nominations for Parklands ward in 2017. So I’m familiar with Nairobi political scene and issues,” Gumo said.
In the August 2022 polls, he was in the ballot for the Westlands MP race but stepped down in favour of the incumbent Tim Wanyonyi.
County assembly speaker Ken Ng’ondi stopped Mabatini MCA Wilfred Odalo from cross examining the nominee.
Odalo was ready to ask questions but was put in hold.
“Members, the speaker says under Standing Order No.98 (2), on conflict of interest, it implies Hon Odalo cannot rate the nominee to award marks or points,” Odalo said
Gumo shocked the committee when he revealed that he was once arrested and charged with a traffic offence.
“I have once been arrested and charged with traffic offence but I was released on bail,” he said.
Boasting his working experience, Gumo said his first employment was at the age of 19 years when he was in the United States.
The US trained accountant said that this experience has given him a special grasp of the challenges people face and how to solve them.
He told the committee that he was not yet married.
“I’m not married but still in the process of formalizing the union with my better half and we have no children,” Gumo said.
