Jubilee overpromised Baba but under-delivered – Sifuna

The rift among affiliate parties in Azimo la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition has gone a notch higher.

A day after a section of Mt Kenya Jubilee leaders said they are going to leave Raila Odinga after campaigning for him in the region, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna termed the move as laughable.

“It’s actually laughable to say they paid the debt when its public knowledge that Jubilee over promised and under-delivered in terms of numbers in Mt. Kenya,” Sifuna said on his social media pages on Saturday.

The Nairobi Senator explained that Jubilee leaders promised Baba 40 per cent of the vote and only delivered a paltry 400, 000 votes on top of what Raila got in 2017.

“This is in spite of Mzee giving them the running mate slot and the assurance of the entire Mt Kenya establishment being behind us,” he stated.

“Mind you they in turn were promised over 50 per cent of government in addition to ODM ceding the Nairobi governors slot.”

Mt Kenya leaders in Azimio led by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have announced that they are going to leave Baba arguing that the political debt has already been paid.

Kioni said the only reason why Raila did not win is that his Nyanza backyard did not turn up to vote for him as expected.

He added that Mt Kenya did its part by giving Raila the highest number of votes which were way more than he has ever garnered from the region throughout his career.

Raila got about 800,000 votes from the eleven counties that make up the region. It was a first in Raila’s four-decade-long political career.   BY THE STAR
