The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has today arrested two touts who were recorded dangerously hanging and swinging on a moving matatu.
The driver of the Matatu ferrying the two culprits has also been arrested.
A video of the two young men hanging on the Buruburu-bound matatu went viral on Sunday, attracting a reaction on social media.
NTSA in a statement said that the two conductors will be charged accordingly.
“The driver and the two conductors have been arrested. We urge all road users to remain vigilant and speak out against such behaviors,” NTSA said.
in the viral video, one of the two men is seen dangerously throwing his legs onto another matatu speeding in an adjacent lane.
The other young man performs some sort of acrobatic moves while hanging on the matatu’s door.
According to the NTSA traffic rules in Kenya, the Matatu went against the regulations for hooting while on the highway as well as carrying individuals with a part of the bodies outside the vehicle.
For hooting, the owner will part with a Ksh3,000 fine while traveling with part of a body part outside the vehicle attracts an instant fine of Ksh1,000.
