A high school student on Tuesday ran amok and slashed his mother to death before irate villagers turned on him with boulders and killed him.
Clemensia Getonto, 76, was in her farm at Raganga area in Mosocho, Kitutu Chache South, when the son turned on her with a machete killing her on the spot.
Family members said the deceased had tried to end an altercation between the suspect, Sebastian Mbae, 20, and one of his aunts when he turned against her with a machete.
The murder suspect was a Form Four candidate. He was home for the September holidays.
It was reported Mbae had a history of mental disorders and often harassed other family members whenever he had such episodes.
On Tuesday, the student was involved in a near fight with the aunt who quickly ran to the house and locked him out to escape his wrath.
“That is the time the woman who was in the farm heard about the commotion and returned to try to calm him down. Instead of calming he turned on her killing her on the spot before irate villagers stoned him to death as he attempted to flee,” Raganga chief Simeon Omweri said.
The bodies were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for an autopsy.
