President-elect William Ruto has continued to bolster his Kenya Kwanza coalition after Meru governor-elect Kawira Mwangaza pledged to work with the coalition.
Mwangaza vied for the seat as an Independent candidate.
“Thank you Meru County Governor-elect Kawira Mwangaza for choosing to work with Kenya Kwanza to drive Meru and Kenya forward, Karen, Nairobi County,” Ruto said in a statement on Twitter.
Kawira’s affiliation with the Kenya Kwanza comes hot on the heels of a similar decision by ten other independent MPs who joined the outfit on Wednesday.
Ruto revealed this while addressing the elected leaders’ caucus of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
He said the ten will be working with Kenya Kwanza to deliver its development agenda to the people of Kenya.
“Out of 12 elected independent Members of Parliament, 10 have joined our team,” Ruto said.
On Thursday, UDM also decamped from the Azimio la Umoja and pledged allegiance to Kenya Kwanza.
Led by party leader and Mandera Senator-elect Ali Roba, the group met Ruto at Deputy President’s official residence in Karen, Nairobi.
The UDM party pulled a surprise by winning two governor positions, 7 parliamentary seats and at least 35 ward representatives.
With the defections and support from the Independent candidates, Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza is headed for an absolute majority in the senate National Assembly and the Council of governors. BY THE STAR
