There's no plot to rig elections, Chebukati declares
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati has rubbished claims that there is a plot to rig the August elections.
Speaking on Thursday, Chebukati accused some politicians of spreading propaganda and asked Kenyans not to allow themselves to be deceived.
"I want to confirm that IEBC is an independent institution. We are not directed by any individual, constitution or authority. We are answerable only to the constitution," he said.
"IEBC has prepared for these elections more than ever before. We will ensure that we have a transparent process; we are going to give Kenyans free, fair and credible elections. That is our commitment to the country," he said.
He said that IEBC is an independent institution and not influenced by any institutions.
"We are not directed by any individual, constitution or authority; we are answerable only to the constitution," he said.
He affirmed that all ballot papers will arrive through JKIA, and the first bath would be received on Thursday.
He noted that procurement had been finalised and printing is on going.
He said the presidential ballot papers will be the last to be printed.
Chebukati noted that election stakeholder would be taken to the printer to witness the printing of presidential ballot papers.
This comes after claims by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance affiliated politicians claimed that a plot had been hatched between the IEBC and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, to rig in their favour. BY THE STAR
