At least 39 people have been injured following an accident on Muhoroni-Kisumu road.
Regional Traffic Commander Mwangi Ng’ang’a said the accident which involved a bus belonging to Climax Bus company occurred at Koru in Muhoroni.
He said the bus which was heading to Kisumu was carrying 56 passengers at the time of the accident.
The traffic boss said 39 of the passengers sustained injuries after the bus rolled.
He said the bus lost control when the driver tried to evade hitting a motorcyclist who had suddenly changed lane.
“Six out of the number have been referred to Kisumu for treatment,” Ng’ang’a said.
The passengers who sustained slight injuries were treated at Muhoroni Subcounty hospital while those with serious injuries were transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.
They were rushed to the Kisumu hospital by two county ambulances.
Kevin Opiyo, a witness, said when the bus reached Murum area along the Muhoroni-Koru road, it tried to avoid hitting a motorcyclist near a bump, and that is when the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll and fall on the side of the road.
“The bus was avoiding to hit a motorbike that passed in front and that is when it rolled,” Opiyo said.
He said they rushed to the scene and rescued the injured passengers who were rushed to the hospital.
“We thank God that there was no death” he told reporters at the scene of accident. BY THE STAR
