Nairobi county recorded some 5,589 rape cases in the 2019, according to Nairobi Metropolitan Services health chief officer Michael Oluga.
“Out of these, 52 turned out positive for HIV upon testing and a further 104 cases were unintended pregnancies,” he said.
In 2016, 1,997 cases of gender-based violence were reported in Nairobi, according to the Kenya Health Information System.
In 2017, 2,021 cases were reported, 2018 had 2,357 cases, 2019 (2,023) and in 2020, there was a nationwide increase of 92 per cent and Nairobi was not spared.
