Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties should not expect Deputy President William Ruto to campaign for their candidates, Kandara MP Alice Wahome has said.
Wahome said on Monday that the parties only signed an agreement to support Ruto as their presidential candidate.
She urged the parties to stop decrying of mistreatment by UDA in the parliamentary and county seat races, saying they should not expect any favours from Ruto.
“The parties should not expect UDA to support their candidates or Ruto to campaign for hopefuls that are not in UDA. Let them campaign for their candidates without complaining,” she said as she distributed bursary cheques to needy students in Kandara.
In his recent visits to Murang’a, Ruto has called for a six-piece vote for UDA candidates and openly campaigned for those vying through the party.
Chama Cha Kazi has asked Ruto to accord all parties in the alliance a level playing ground to seek votes.
A week ago, The Service Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri raised concerns that Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties were being sidelined during Ruto campaigns in Mt Kenya.
Kiunjuri asked the coalition’s principals to resolve the conflicts to avoid costly consequences for the team.
But Wahome said affiliate parties are free to use Ruto’s image on their campaign posters.
She also said the alliance will take action against two governor aspirants, whose supporters engaged in a fight last week.
The fight was between supporters of former principal secretaries Wairagu wa Maai of DP and Irungu Nyakera of Farmers Party.
At least 10 youths were left nursing injuries, which the police said were inflicted using a machete.
Nyakera said Wairagu’s team found his supporters campaigning and started the chaos, while Wairagu’s team said they had a permit to campaign.
