List of things you can bury with your loved ones

Sean Andrew's unique tribute and mourning of his grandpa, former president Mwai Kibaki has elicited a lot of debate.

Netizens are asking what are the things you can leave on the grave or bury with your loved ones to properly mourn your loved one.

Well, there are some items that are obviously traditional to leave on graves and some that are not as obvious.

Here is a list of items you can leave on the grave or put in the coffin to be buried with your loved one.

1. Flowers

Leaving flowers at a gravesite is a time-honoured tradition. In many cultures, decorating the grave with flowers is seen as a way to honour and respect the dead.

2. Photos

Photos of family, personal milestones and celebrations are a popular choice to place inside a loved one’s casket.

3. Letters

Farewell notes written by family to the person who has died are often placed inside a coffin. Old love letters might also be included.

4. Religious tokens

For some people, it’s a comfort to bury a loved one with a Bible or religious scripture in their coffin, or include items such as Rosary beads.

5. Jewellery

Most people opt to put rings, earrings or necklaces that they treasure to be buried with their loved ones.

6. Teddies and toys

When a child or baby has died, it can be greatly meaningful to place a favourite soft toy or snuggle blanket with them in their coffin, as well as cuddly tributes on your child’s grave.

7. Song lyrics

The family can opt to share lyrics of his/her favourite song in the casket. Sometimes, song lyrics can be used in place of things like letters, as the lyrics will say everything that you want to say to your loved one.

8. Books

Your loved one's favourite book that they loved and lived by would be a great memento and tribute for them and the family if it was put into the casket with them.     BY MPASHO NEWS
