Governor race: Sakaja leads in Nairobi, Nassir ahead in Mombasa- Poll

A latest opinion poll TIFA has ranked Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja as the most preferred governor for Nairobi.

Sakaja leads with 23 per cent in the governor race for Nairobi, according to a poll by TIFA released on Tuesday, May 3.

Polycarp Igathe is the second at 15 per cent, Richard Ngatia at 3 per cent, Anne Kananu at1 per cent, Agnes Kagure at 1 per cent. However, 53 per cent of Nairobi residents are still undecided.

Ngatia, who was originally in the race for Nairobi Governor, shelved his ambitions after he was appointed as the President’s Special Envoy on Trade.

In Makueni County, Mutula Kilonzo Jnr leads with 50 per cent, Patrick Musimba is second with 5 per cent, Rose Moseo came third at 3 per cent.

In Mombasa, the most preferred candidate for the governor seat is Abulswamad Nassir at 40 per cent followed by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko at 28 per cent, Hassan Omar (9 per cent), William Kingi (1 per cent).

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna leads in the Senatorial race for Nairobi city with 19 per cent followed by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru who has 6 per cent. The third is Maina Kamanda with 1 per cent.

Azimio la Umoja had settled on ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna as its Senate candidate in Nairobi while Kenya Kwanza picked Bishop Margaret Wanjiru. She was initially in the race but stepped down in favour of Sakaja. 

For the Nairobi Women representative race, Esther Passaris leads with 27 per cent followed by Millicent Omanga with 6.2 per cent, Wangui B Nganga with 1.1 per cent, Rachel Shebesh with 0.7 per cent and Cecilia Mwangi with 0.4 per cent.

Funded by Tifa, the survey was conducted in April 2022, and sampled 1949 respondents in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa counties, and had a 4 percent margin of error.

The overall objective was to determine the popular political party and alliances, popular aspirants for governor, senator and women rep posts and the support for presidential candidates in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa counties.    BY THE STAR
