Senator Kihika to sponsor top KCPE girl doing menial jobs to raise fees
Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has pledged to pay school fees for a top KCPE candidate who resorted to doing menial works to raise fees for her secondary school admission.
Christine Wambui Irungu who has received an admission letter from Alliance Girls after scoring 403 marks, was on the verge of missing out on school because of poverty.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 26, Kihika promised to sponsor the student throughout her high school education.
"Trying to locate this brilliant girl. Anyone who can help me get in touch with her or her family? l Would be honoured to sponsor her education from Form 1 through Form 4," she tweeted.
Christine, 14, was the best pupil at Maombi Primary School in Nakuru County.
"I worked hard to join Alliance Girls High School. I will use every skill at my disposal to even join the school. My parents don't have enough money," she said in an interview with Nation.
She further said that her parents were struggling to meet her basic needs adding she will not let her dreams of joining Alliance Girls fade.
"I will do basic manual work at home to raise money and reduce the fees burden on my parents," she added.
Christine said she grows vegetables and sells them at the nearby Kabazi shopping centre to raise money for her fees. BY THE STAR
