Boys scored more grade Es compared to girls in KCSE

 

Students who scored a mean grade of E in the 2021 KCSE exams increased compared to the previous years.

The ministry of education released data that indicates 46,151 students scored grade E.

Out of this, the majority were male students (26,578) and 19,573 were female.

More than 400,000 scored D+, D plain, and D-; 245,454 were female and 271,847 were male.

This means more than half of the total number of candidates scored D+ and below.

Last year, 15,225 boys fell in the grade E category against 12,821 girls.

Last year, over seven thousand 2020 KCSE students who qualified for the university failed to take part in the revision exercise.

The students who were to fall under government sponsorship subsequently missed out on enrollment.

In the 2020 KCSE examination, some 142,540 candidates obtained the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ plus and above.

This 2021 exam results reflected an increase to 145,145 candidates.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service data indicates that 128,073 students were placed in degree courses.

Another 6,617 opted for diploma courses in technical colleges.

Education CS George Magoha while releasing the results on Saturday said students who did not perform well could still secure a chance in vocational institutions.

Magoha urged the government to invest in TVETs which enroll most of the students who score below C-.

This year, private schools in Nairobi showed exemplary performance in the 2021 KCSE results.

Light Academy produced two students among the top fifteen while Strathmore School produced one.

Ramadhan Musa and Mshindi Daniel, both from Light Academy scored an A plain with 87 points.

Jason Kori, Elvin Okoth, Hussein Abdalla, Simon Romanus, Richard Charles, and Kiri Jonathan scored an A plain from Light Academy.

Dan Eugene, Sean Donovan, Matthew Mejja, and David Mwalimu also scored A plain from Light Academy.

Mugane Job from Strathmore School also scored an A of 87 points.     BY THE STAR
