Murang’a Woman representative Sabina Chege has told off deputy president William Ruto for demanding an apology from President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga over the Building Bridges Initiative amendment bill.
Ruto on Thursday asked the Handshake leaders to apologise to Kenyans for wasting Kenyans’ four years pushing for the BBI instead of development.
But in a rejoinder, Sabina asked the DP to come clean on the Kimwarer dam scandal that is said to have gobbled up billions of development money.
She told the DP that his demand for an apology would not materialise and at the same time added that Kenyans deserve an apology over the Kimwarer dam.
“I heard them demanding that Raila the 5th and President Uhuru should make an apology to Kenyans concerning the funds wasted on amending the BBI bill. I want to assure them that this will not happen unless they tell us the real story of Kimwarer dam. Kenyans need an apology too,” Chege said via tweet.
Sabina’s remarks came on a day when Kenya Kwanza Alliance insisted that they want to move a motion in Parliament compelling the Auditor General to investigate the public funds used on the Building Bridges Initiate (BBI) plan.
Speaking to the press in Lamu, Ruto and his allies demanded an audit of the funds to establish the truth.
“It is important to note that the public funds used in the unconstitutional process were not appropriated by the National Assembly for that purpose but were rather an illegal diversion of public funds,” the statement read.
Their reaction comes hot on the heels of a Supreme Court verdict that declared the BBI unconstitutional. BY THE STAR
