Police on Monday evening arrested a man suspected to have murdered his wife in Naivasha.

Julius Owaka, 32, was arrested after detectives linked him to the gruesome murder of his 26-year old wife, whose body was discovered at a thicket in Naivasha’s Kongoni area, in early February.

According to their neighbours in the Duro area, the couple had lived together for five years before separating last year.

The deceased is said to have moved back to her parents’ home but early this year, Owaka, a local footballer, started making romantic overtures to her in a bid to rekindle their marriage.

According to the DCI, the deceased left her father’s home on January 31, 2022, after which she disappeared only for her remains to be found nine days later in a thicket within the Duro area.

“Through forensic cyber and digital analysis, the sleuths traced the suspect to Githurai 45, where he had since gone into hiding, after committing the crime,” DCI reported.

They further reported that DNA and Crime Scene experts based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory had earlier obtained DNA samples from the scene of the crime.

“With Owaka’s arrest, the sleuths will be conducting a conclusive analysis for a watertight case against him,” DCI said.

According to Statistica, as of 2020, 3,111 murders were reported to the police in Kenya.     BY THE STAR
