Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe has claimed that ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga would become the 5th President of Kenya even if he does not get votes from the Mt. Kenya region.
During an interview on KTN News, Murathe said that whatever votes Raila gets from Mt. Kenya would be just an addition to his win.
“These people (Kenya Kwanza Alliance team) have hypothecated their whole game on Mt. Kenya votes but even without Mt. Kenya votes, Raila will still be the President,” said Murathe.
He said that Deputy President William Ruto is still in office today because he is protected by the Constitution.
Early this year, Murathe had claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta ended his dalliance with William Ruto because the DP was out to sabotage his administration.
Speaking in Thika, Murathe said that Ruto was given half the government including some of the most powerful ministries but the President was not satisfied with the way they were being run.
The former MP said Uhuru decided to work with Raila to ensure what he wanted to deliver to Kenyans was actualised.
The Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission data reveal that Mt Kenya currently has 5.9 million voters, having recorded 224,499 new voters in the recently concluded voter listing.
Of these, Mt Kenya West accounts for 4.6 million voters, while Mt Kenya East has 1.3 million, putting the region at an advantage over the rest.
The DP has many times said the 2022 race would be decided by economic models and not ethnic groupings. He, however, is heavily relying on getting a chunk of the Mt Kenya vote, to get a head-start in the race that could pit him against Raila.
Based on the current IEBC data, Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Meru, Machakos, Murang’a, Bungoma, Kitui, Nyeri, Makueni, Kajiado, Tharaka Nithi and Narok could be the new battlegrounds.
Raila has already embarked on campaigns to tilt the scales in his favour in Mt Kenya and some Rift Valley counties with the help of area governors. BY THE STAR
