Three men were killed in separate incidents of mob lynching in Nairobi.
Police said the incidents happened in Kayole, Soweto and Kyan’gombe areas in the city.
They were all accused of committing a crime before an alarm was raised, alerting the mob that chased and lynched them.
The one killed in Kyang’ombe is accused of damaging the windshields of two lorries using a stone for no reason.
Police say they are investigating the incidents and have moved the bodies to the mortuary.
Nairobi deputy police boss James Mugera said mob lynching is a crime and those found culpable will be prosecuted.
“Mob lynching is criminal, and we warn those committing it they may face serious charges. Those arrested should be handed to authorities,” said Mugera.
He said the trend of mob lynching has been on the rise. Up to four cases are reported in the city weekly, which officials termed alarming.
In some past incidents, police have investigated and arrested and charged suspects of mob lynching.
They are also investigating an incident in which a man was killed in a clash of two rival groups in Mathare, Nairobi.
The deceased identified as Faus Njuguna was hit in the head with a blunt object and died on the spot.
Witnesses told police that his group had confronted another group over a move to mount posters on the wall of a building in the area.
This prompted a fight that turned fatal. The attackers escaped the scene.
Efforts to trace them are ongoing as part of the probe.
Police said they are pursuing good leads into the whereabouts of the gang behind the incident. The body was moved to the mortuary. BY THE STAR
