Confirming the incident, Lari Sub-County police boss Steve Kirui said the incident involved a 14-seater matatu bound for Naivasha and a lorry that was heading towards Nairobi.
It is alleged that the truck driver tried to overtake other vehicles and collided head-on with the matatu.
The three who died on the spot are the matatu driver and two passengers who were seated with the driver.
The injured passengers have been taken to Kijabe mission hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
The police boss has warned drivers to be extra careful while using the busy highway to avoid an occurrence of a similar incident.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for the truck driver who is said to have fled after the incident. BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
