Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho says he is not seeking any elective post in the upcoming general election slated for August 9.
Dr Kibicho said he will not vie for Kirinyaga governor as speculated by many.
“This question has been put to me so many times and I have been giving it the same answer since 2019, 2020 and now we are in the magical 2022 and there’s a month left and I am saying, I am not vying. I am not vying,” he said.
“As we speak, there has been a matter in court on whether or not civil servants should resign six months before the general election whose date is February 9.
“Some people went to court and there’s a stay on the ruling that had been given earlier that people resign six months.”
The PS termed the deadline matter inevitable, adding that even if a civil servant does not resign by February 9, “there’s no way they will vie for a political seat while in office.”
He urged those aspiring for political seats to resign by the set date to focus on campaigns, adding that it is healthier to leave at that time.
He at the same time explained the circumstances surrounding Mr George Natembeya’s resignation as Rift Valley regional commissioner and ‘posting’ to the Office of the President.
“He is an employee of the government who must be processed. When you give a resignation letter; it must be processed; it must go to the human resource; it must be accepted. Your leave days and your dues must also be counted.
“Who are you at that time because you have not been processed? So you must be brought to the headquarters for processing,” he said.
In an interview with Sunday Nation, the PS, who is also the National Development Implementation Technical Committee (NDITC) chairperson, an institution that oversees government projects throughout the country, said he has 13 years of experience serving as Principal Secretary in different departments.
He assured Kenyans that the NDITC will ensure the government implements and completes all its development projects.
“I have been serving as Interior Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior as Principal since 2016 when I was appointed, before that I was in the Foreign Affairs docket from 2013 towards the end of 2015. But I am lucky to have done some work as PS for Industrialization and also Transport I can boost having 13 years experience in the same job group,” said Dr Kibicho.
